El Mirage

There are many suburbs in the Valley of the Sun. One such suburb is that of the town of “El Mirage.” But don’t let the name fool you. El Mirage is no mirage at all. Here’s some interesting bits of history to this unexpected jewel of the Valley.

What makes El Mirage Special?

To start, El Mirage is considered by many to be the Gateway to the Northwest Valley of the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area. This is a farcry from its humble farmland beginnings circa the 1930s. El Mirage is closeby to Luke Air Force Base (AFB), the largest Air Force training base in the world to date. It also is the home of the Greater Maricopa Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ). What this is is a government designated site to store both foreign and domestic goods; these goods can also be assembled and exhibited inside this zone for sale.

There is also a strong Hohokam presence that founded where El Mirage stands today. Shortly afterwards migrant farmers settled along the West Bank of the once thriving Agua Fria River. Then El Mirage was incorporated into the Metropolitan City of Phoenix in 1951. So far, this fair city has seen a flux of residents looking for affordable homes, a non-rush feel to town life, and overall a place to call home. Well, it’s no illusion that El Mirage has come to be such a place.
